After spending a winter’s day at the ever-glorious Stanley Park, I was reminded about how beautiful our city is and also about the book Goodnight Vancouver by David Adams. If you live in the Vancouver area, I definitely recommend this book as a great gift idea for a baby/toddler/preschooler (last minute Christmas gift?). Not only does it have vivid illustrations of the many things to do in and around the city, it is also serves as a visual reminder to children about what they see on their outings, while reflecting the four different seasons and different times of day as well.

While some pictures feature Stanley Park, there are also illustrations of Granville Island, Spanish Banks, Grouse Mountain, Lynn Canyon, and more. Whenever my three year old passes English Bay, he always exclaims, “look, there are the ‘freighters nestled in the bay’”, which is one of the lines from the book.
Published in 2009 as part of the Good Night Our World series, you can also find ‘Good Night’ books for other cities and regions in North America. Though I’d love to be saying Good Night Hawaii right about now, I’m content to read Good Night Vancouver with my lovely boys. They love it. Anyways, I’ll leave you a photo of myself in my beloved Stanley Park with the ‘freighters nestled in the bay’ in the background…Merry Christmas, friends! And Good Night!

I'm Jackie, a Vancouver based mother, writer and storyteller, and this is my space to share with you the books that my boys love and how they weave together with our life. Here you'll find book reviews and suggestions, information on Canadian publishers, as well as occasional poems, stories, reflections, and musings on my writing journey and where it takes me...

I enjoy your blog Jackie and find it quite helpful in picking out books for our grandson. Thanks.
